Controller Care Tips

How to Keep Your Custom Controller Looking Fresh

A custom-painted controller from Skin Pixel isn’t just a tool. With a sleek airbrushed finish, it's a bold statement to your unique gaming setup, you want to keep it looking as fresh as the day you got it. Here are some essential care tips to maintain its beauty and functionality.

1. Keep your hands and controller clean

Hands transfer oils, dirt, and sweat onto your controller, which can build up over time. We recommend keeping your hands clean to avoid transferring these oils to your controller. Take breaks to let your hands breathe.

Wipe down your controller with a dry microfiber cloth. Avoid liquids and harsh chemicals that might damage the finish. Avoid excessive wiping, this can wear away the protective layer and chip away at the paint.

2. Store It Properly

If your controller is not pride in place on display, when not in use, store your controller in a dust-free, dry environment. We recommend a protective case that can help prevent accidental drops and scratches. If you have a display stand, ensure it’s positioned away from direct sunlight to avoid fading.

3. Avoid Food & Drinks

It’s tempting to snack while gaming, it's the stereotypical image we think of as gamers, but greasy fingers are a custom controller’s worst enemy. Keep food and drinks at a safe distance to prevent spills and stains that can be difficult to clean. Once you've finished eating clean those oils off your hands before resuming gaming.

4. Protect the Thumbsticks

Thumbstick wear is inevitable, but using silicone covers or thumb grips can help minimize damage. These can also provide extra grip and comfort while gaming.

5. Be Gentle with the Buttons & Triggers

Repeated heavy pressing can lead to wear and tear over time. Treat your controller with care, especially if it has custom buttons or trigger modifications. Squeezing that trigger too tight won't make you shoot faster.

6. Mind the Charging Port

Only charge your controllers when necessary. Roughly inserting or removing the charging cable can damage the port and internal connections. Use gentle pressure and, if possible, opt for a magnetic charging cable or charging dock to reduce wear.

7. Keep It Dry

Moisture and electronics don’t mix. If your controller gets wet, turn it off immediately and dry it thoroughly. For deeper cleaning, use compressed air to remove moisture from cracks and crevices.

8. Refresh When Needed

If your custom controller starts showing signs of wear, we recommend avoiding use to prevent further damage. Consider minor touch-ups and additional clear coat protective layers that can help preserve the design over time. If needed, reach out to us for maintenance advice.

By following these tips, your custom controller will stay in top shape for years, looking just as stunning as the day you got it.
